New Delhi.

Sir,

Greetings from PVCHR.
The news, by The Times of India, 14th June, Page- 7,  refers to torture inflicted upon by caste hindus on a dalit boy for trying to collect drinking water .  The report alleges that three women abused this 16 years old boy by his caste, when he protested, all the three women beat him up. They were later joined by a local butcher. The boy has since been admitted in the hospital.

On behalf of PVCHR, I urge NHRC to look into the matter.  The perpetrator must be severely dealt with for torturing a dalit boy. The boy must be compensated. The state should also be directed to bear all the present and subsequent medical expenses related to this case. The state should also make provisions for psychological counseling for Vasanthakumar and his family. Dalits have absolute right to live with dignity and it is the responsibility od the state to gurantee it.

With regards
