Sir,

Greetings from PVCHR.

Please refer to the media report in the link: http://ifp.co.in/imphal-free-press-full-story.php?newsid=17557

According to this media report, a  local youth  H. Jotin (45) of Yumnam Huidrom Mayai Leikai was killed by an unidentified gunmen on 14th June, 2011, at Thiyam Leishangkhom. Resenting the failure of the security agencies in identifying the culprit the local public of the area has formed a Joint Action Committee and organized a mass rally with sit in protest at Wangoi Thongkhong Luxmi bazaar under banner " Jotin Meehata Chennaba sing Puthoklak-U".

Speaking to media person the JAC convernor, Doren Kha-ngamba said that Jotin is a simple person who runs a Pharmacy at Wangoi besides being a staff of the state medical department.

Another local meira paibi while condemning the killing said that the people of Yumnam Huidrom as well as people from the neighboring villages are organizing this protest and also to show that the present women society are against terrorism.  She further lamented that the large number of police personnel who are recruited for maintaining law and order has failed to maintained it.

Sir, it is very unfortunate that despite having so much of security presence in the state, civiliand are getting killed. On behalf of PVCHR, I request you to intervene in the matter and direct the state government to speed up the investigation process and engage the local civil society groups to maintain law and order in the state. The family of the victim should be compensated adequately.

With regards,

Dr. Mohanlal Panda
