Sir,

Greetings from PVCHR.

Bhatta-Parsaul violence: Top leader arrested in Delhi

New Delhi:  Farmer leader Manveer Singh Tewatia was on Saturday arrested from New Delhi's Tilak Bridge area, allegedly for instigating farmers' violence in Bhatta-Parsaul in May. Tewatia was nabbed by Uttar Pradesh police after a three-km chase through the city, police said.

"Today we arrested Manveer Singh Tewatia in Hauz Khas area. For the past 15 days, we were keeping a close watch on house No. C-31 in Hauz Khas. We arrested him following a tip-off last night," said Noida Senior Superintendent of Police S.N. Singh.

"On Saturday morning, our team followed Tewatia when he was going from Hauz Khas in a blue Esteem car in which there was also a woman and a driver. On seeing the police, Tewatia jumped from the car and ran. He was caught after a three-km chase and was finally arrested," Singh added.

The Uttar Pradesh police had announced a reward of
Rs.50,000 for his arrest. He was arrested around 11.45am.Tewatia has been taken to Noida.

"We are verifying who were his accomplices. The person, who was in touch with Tewatia, has been identified as Kesari Singh Gujjar. According to informers, Tewatia was about to hold a live press conference in Delhi with the help of Gujjar," added the officer.

The police swung into action only after getting reliable information. It is also reported that the Esteem car was sent to Tewatia by Gujjar.

Sir, on behalf of PVCHR, I request you to look into the matter. Given the antagonistic posture of the UP state government against Mr Tewatia, NHRC should  ensure the security of Mr Tewatia in the police custody. NHRC should also monitor the cases the state government might file to harass Mr Tewatia.

With regards,
