Parked garbage collecting vehicles raise a stinking issue
A land at Sector 8 allotted for construction of Local Shopping Centre (LSC) is now being used by the MCD to park vehicles used for garbage dumping. With the onset of monsoons, the residents fear that such a mess can lead to spread of diseases. The RWA alleges that the land was handed over to the MCD by the DDA in 2005 for a year but even after five years the land is still being used by the MCD. General secretary of RWA AS Chhatwal says, "At the time of handing over/taking over of the charge for solid waste management of the entire sub city from Sector 1-23 between MCD and DDA on April 21, 2005, MCD was allowed to use the site in Sector 8 having an area of 2300 sq meter for only one year (up to May 2006). Now, even after five years, the garbage vehicles of MCD are still parked here. We request the MCD and DDA to solve this problem and develop our LSC."
President of the RWA, P Bhel says that the site is located just near the main road and at the crossing of the blocks A and B of the sector near the Medical Council of India and an unhygienic condition like this may cause various diseases.
In spite of repeated requests and reminders to the authorities, nothing substantial has been done to shift the site to other non residential area. The DDA officials informed that several letters had been written by them to the MCD but nothing happened. Two sites have already been given to the MCD in Sector 16B but even then they are not shifting there.
Bhel adds, "The concerned engineer of the DDA had informed the MCD about the new sites. On the subject of damaged dustbins we wrote a letter to the CM Delhi and the matter was forwarded for necessary action to DC Nazafgarh Zone. But what happened after that is still unknown. As a matter of fact, due to hundreds of damaged dustbins in the particular site, residents have been facing a lot of problems due to the foul smell and mosquitoes breeding."Commissioner PRO DDA Nimo Dhar says, "We will look after the issue and do the needful in this direction."
DC, MCD Najafgarh zone JB Singh said, "Since the issue is subject to headquaters' concern I can't say more about the latest status of the issue."
Sir this is a serious case of negligence by the MCD. The civic agency should immediately ensure that the residents live in a healthy environment. On behalf of PVCHR, I request you to look into the matter and do the needful for the right of the residents.
